The fourth volume in the series presents two groups of objects that were used for personal hygiene, aesthetic and hygienic treatment and medical care in prehistoric to early medieval times. The objects range from combs, mirrors, razors and tweezers for cosmetics and hygiene to scalpels, dental forceps and bone saws for medical purposes. Despite their long tradition, the individual objects are still surprisingly up-to-date in terms of form and function. The medical implements from the Roman period in particular are surprising due to their high-quality craftsmanship.
